Scarves in the Round by Heather Walpole

I recently got the chance to review Heather Walpole's fantastic new book, Scarves in the Round, and wanted to share how much I loved it.

Heather is the owner/HBIC/creativity machine at one of my favorite yarn companies, Ewe Ewe. I work with her a lot and she's a friend, so I was very excited to see her book. When we were at TNNA I got to read through it ahead of her book signing, and it is great. There are dozens of lovely patterns in there, all worked in the round-- Horaay! Circular needles and mostly knit stitches! -- for your knitting enjoyment. There are cowls, infinity scarves, tube scarves, capelets... many of which I'd like to make and wear.

My favorite scarf is this one, "Pixel Perfect," which is worked as a tube, alternating a solid color (shown in Ewe So Sporty) with a gradient color-changing yarn (Ombre Sport by Freia Fibers). The effect is simple and striking.

Totally tubular, dude

I really enjoyed the projects and photos in the book, and I bet you will too.

Are you into it?? You can win a copy of the book!

To enter to win a copy from Stackpole Books, leave a comment below about why you like working in the round rather than flat. Be sure to include an email address so we can find you! Comment by Friday, June 19th to enter.

As Heather says in the book, get busy knitting yourself in circles!

Finishing up the KAL

My Knit Along with Ewe Ewe (and you?) is wrapping up! Today is the final official day of the Double Deco KAL and I posted about it over here.

I am in love with my new Double Deco wrap!

I knit really loose and it is HUGE.

It's officially cold in Chicago, so I have been using it constantly. Stay warm, fiber friends!

Floaty mohair perfection - Parfait Scarf(ait) pattern

I am an intermittent blogger. What we have here is an overdue post on Parfait Scarf(ait), a "new" pattern (shhh let's pretend it's not almost a year old) that I adore. It has come in really handy during this Chicago-Winter-From-The-Frozen-Depths-Of-Hell.

Los Angeles flashback photos! This is NOT my Chicago winter wardrobe.

Parfait has 3 keyholes, so there are many ways to wear it. I like options, what can I say!

About the yarn: how good is Shibui silk cloud?

So good.

It's the finest, silkiest silk/mohair blend I've encountered. Gorgeous sheen, super soft mohair (not too fuzzy and not itchy), I am a serious convert after years of using another hazy silk/mohair blend that shall remain nameless for now. It's the one from the British company named after a tree.

Hello again!

Well, it appears that I have returned to blog land. A lot has been happening recently with my knitting design, so I thought I should put some stuff here!

I took some great photos of my friend Heather wearing some knits a few days ago. Here are some favorite shots.

This pattern is available at my etsy shop here.

Scarf here

and this one here.

Taking pictures, man, what fun. I am pretty sure this will become a major part of my creative life. There are many more beautiful pictures of beautiful Heather here on the Ruby Submarine facebook page! Also, I am kind of on twitter.

Making some steps towards creative fulfillment... 2011 has been good to me so far!
